CLIVE DAVIS WINS WORLD TOP 100 A&R OF 2001
Clive Davis, A&R at J Records in USA, has been awarded the world's No.1 A&R for 2001 by HitQuarters.
This leading industry publication for new progressive artists and musicians honours the A&Rs across the world that have achieved the most in terms of breaking new artists. The Top 100 chart is compiled from all the available sales chart data from across the world during last year.
Clive has proven to give priority and success to upcoming artists by breaking Alicia Keys, Dido etc. worldwide. He is awarded as being the person with most power and updated knowledge to help innovative artists achieve their highest goals. He also spent 41 weeks on top of HitQuarters' weekly “World Top 20 A&R Chart”.

Within the HitQuarters Top 10, nine are based in the USA, and there are only female A&Rs within the Top 50. No.2 is Jeff Blue, A&R at Warner Brothers USA for Linkin Park, No.3 is Kevin Law, A&R at Universal USA for Nelly, No.4 is Teresa La Barbera Whites at Columbia Texas for Destiny’s Child and Jessica Simpson, and at No.5 is the best European, Miles Leonard, A&R at Parlophone UK for Gorillaz.
New York is the A&R-capital of the world. It hosts A&R offices that are credited for 37,7% of the success with new artists. California offices are credited for 26,1% and London offices 18,9%. The most successful label is J Records, No.2 is Columbia, No.3 Universal, No.4 Dreamworks and No.5 is Warner. As major and label-host, Universal scores big time and are credited for 41,1% for their various labels. This is more than No.2 BMG (19,7%) and No.3 Sony (19,0%) together.
The genre of the year is Pop with 37,6%. Rock has 21,0% and Hip Hop 15,3%. The No.1 Dance & Club A&R is Niclas Anker at Universal Denmark for signing Safri Duo. The No.1 independent A&R’s are Colin Lester & Ian McAndrew at Wildstar in the UK for signing Craig David.
The most successful A&Rs are approached daily by hundreds of wanting musicians in search for a record deal, but they do not generally accept unsolicited material. However, at HitQuarters there is a chance for new artists to get their songs presented directly to a panel of the most prominent A&R’s in the world. Many of them within the world’s Top 10.
