World Top 100 A&R Chart - Jan 22, 2004

The A&R team at Shady Records USA are the 2003 World No.1 A&Rs!

picture HitQuarters presents the 2003 World Top 100 A&R Chart. The Chart, which is compiled from worldwide sales charts, rewards the ability of A&Rs to break new artists.

Riggs Morales, Marc Labelle and Marshall Mathers (a.k.a. Eminem), who make up the A&R team at Shady Records NY, USA, are the world’s No.1 A&Rs for 2003. By breaking 50 Cent and Obie Trice, they have proven to give priority and bring success to upcoming artists.

At No.2 on the Chart are Brian Bacchus at God of Wine Productions Inc. NY and Bruce Lundvall at Blue Note NY, for Norah Jones; Diana Meltzer, A&R at Wind-Up Records NY for Evanescence, is at No.3; and last year’s No.2, Joshua Sarubin, A&R at Arista NY for Avril Lavigne, is down two places this year at No.4.

The most successful European A&Rs are Björn Teske and André Selleneit, at BMG Berlin, Germany, who come in at No.8, for Yvonne Catterfeld and the artists from the TV show Deutschland Sucht Den Superstar.

New York is clearly the A&R capital of the world: its A&R offices account for 49.49% of the new artists who were successful in 2003. London offices are now at No.2 with 13,83%, passing California offices, which make up 10,51%. Pop is still the dominant genre (34,33%), followed by hip-hop (15,75%) and rock (15,65%).

Dan Keeling, A&R at Parlophone, UK, is the No.1 Alternative Pop A&R for Coldplay, and Alvaro Ugolini, at Energy Records, Italy, is the most successful Dance and Club Music A&R for In-Grid and Benny Benassi.

The most successful A&Rs are approached on a daily basis by hundreds of musicians in search of a record deal, but they do not generally accept unsolicited material. At HitQuarters.com, it is possible for new artists to present their songs to a panel of the world's most prominent A&Rs.
